Slippery Elm can be used as a tea, tincture, capsule or topical preparation. Instructions for each are listed below and an instructional sheet is Included with each purchase. This requires making a final product yourself, please see supplies and instructions below.
Using Slippery Elm
Slippery Elm mucilage can decrease how much medicine the body absorbs. Take slippery elm at least 1 hour after other medications if necessary. Waiting will give the medication the opportunity to be absorbed.
Instructions for Use
- Tea: Bring 1 to 2 cups (6 to 12oz) of filtered or distilled water to a boil. Pour it over 1 to 2 tablespoons (2 to 4 grams) or powdered slippery elm in a mug. Steep for 3 minutes, then stir the mixture. Can be served hot or cold, with or without a sweetener such as honey. Will thicken as it cools. This tea can be take up to four times daily as needed. If taking alongside Essiac tea, reduce to 3 times a day.

Consumption of slippery elm is considered safe and no side effects seem to occur. However, as a topical application it may cause skin irritation in those at risk of developing allergic reactions. There are no known interactions with foods.
